In 2022, the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the Association of University Presses (AUPresses), and the Library Publishing Coalition (LPC), hosted a series of intra- and cross-community conversations on publishing in and as the university.
These conversations took up such questions as:
- How do you see the [university press, library publishing, or research library] as part of the university, and university-based publishing?
- What do university presses, library publishers, and research libraries need from a shared community/infrastructure network?
- What can we contribute to such a shared future?
In 2023, individuals who had taken part in these conversations formed a working group to develop a foundational statement to launch a community of interested professionals and organizations looking to build the future of university-based publishing together.
The statement defines university-based publishing, articulates our shared values, and proposed initial action commitments to help build our publishing future.
The community was officially launched in September 2024 with a video call. Watch the recording soon.
